The picture above deserves some explanation since it tells a lot about me. First I'd like to apologize for the bad quality of the picture... it's what happens when you take a picture with a disposable camera, take a picture of that picture with a digital camera, and then shrink it down for the web. One of the main features of this picture is me. Although I don't have much to say about me directly, the surroundings do say a fair amount. I'll start listing off objects and mentioning their significance.

On the very bottom left, you can see the bottom of an Evangelion poster. My awesome friend Chris got me this poster for Christmas. As you may have guessed, it shows either that I have at least some interest in anime, or that Chris didn't know what to get me for Christmas. Perhaps both, but surely the former is true.

On top of that is a certificate from the ACM Programming Contest Regionals that occur in Lethbridge every year. Two years ago, I somehow made it onto the contest team and we took first place in the Rocky Mountain Region. This entitled us to go on to the World Finals which were held in Vancouver. Out of the over 2000 teams from all over the world, we tied for 14th place and got a bronze medal for number of problems solved.

Sitting on the cabinet above the poster is a tennis racquet. While I don't play tennis, I do play badminton. I've been playing badminton with a cool group of people. You guys are the greatest!

Just above that is a hard hat. The hard hat is yellow, which is my stated favorite colour.

You can see some wires running along the beam there. They come from the antenna in the attic that is used to make all 5 of our TV channels more clear. What does that say about me? Well I guess it says that I'm willing to do some work to get better TV reception. Uh... ya... On the wall at the back you can see a diploma. That little piece of paper is due to my successful completion of a BSc in Computing Science with a Business Minor in the year 2001. I'm currently pursuing my MSc at the University of Alberta.

Beside the diploma (behind my head) you can see a grey box with wires in it. This box is my CLC-13. That stands for Christmas Light Controller, and I added the 13 since it's my favorite number. Coincidentally, my birthday also falls on the thirteenth of February. The CLC-13 itself controls all those Christmas lights you can see hanging from my ceiling. Since I was little, it seems like I've always had some desire to be able to put on shows with light and music, and now I can. The disco ball at the top of the picture is an ornament I bought at Eatons when it was going out of business. I'm working on a stepper motor controller for it. Maybe I'll finish it this summer.

One of the main things in the picture is my computer. As you might have guessed, I'm something of a geek. Who else would have a basement that looks like that? Computers are such useful tools and they're a blast to work with, although sometimes they can be a real pain. I'm standing in front of my computer, but if you look close enough, you can see that the side of the case is off. Ever time I put them on it seems like I'm taking them off again. Just can't win. The computer on the right is our server. It provides internet and printer access to me and my family. You can see our Lexmark Optra E printer (good printer by the way) sitting on top of the right speaker. On the server is our cable modem. I find the Internet very useful. I've gotten fairly proficient at finding things on the net, a skill that comes in handy frequently.

In the picture are 4 speakers. Aside from those, also in the room with me is my subwoofer and two amps that I take with me when I need a portable sound system. Music is a huge part of my life, and I like it when it sounds nice.

In front of the left little blue speaker is a black box. That box is my PIC Programmer. It represents my interest in electonics. You can look back on my main page for more details about that.

There's a picture over the window. Not only does the picture keep out the sun for my light shows, but it ensures the light doesn't wake me up so I can sleep in. ;) I believe the picture itself is of Maligne Lake. It's representative of the fact that I love the mountains and camping.

That brings us to the bottom right of the picture. You can see a few things here. The first is the music sitting on the music stand. There's some songs about God in the pile there. Not only am I a geek, but I'm a Christian geek.

I made the stand the music is sitting on. I love to design, create, and build things, including but not necessarily limited to electronics, outdoor structures, software, music, and little things like music stands. Chris and I are currently working on a swamp buggy sort of boat... a boat powered by an air propeller.

Below the stand is the XV-88 I purchased last Christmas. It's an 88 key keyboard which I use to write music. Most of the time I just sit down and play whatever comes to mind. Sometimes it even sounds good. Music is such a gift in my life and I totally thank God for that.

Well, that's a brief glimpse of me. The rest of the site has details about things I'm interested in. Take a look, you never know what you might find.
